May is National Pet Month, and to help make sure local pets are healthy, safe, and homed, the Communities Foundation of Texas (CFT) is presenting North Texas Gives to Animals, a fundraising campaign running May 15-30 through the NorthTexasGivingDay.org platform.

The campaign includes $100,000 in total matching funds from CFT fundholder Gigi Gartner and CFT.

Those matching funds will be available to local nonprofits supporting animals beginning today, May 15. Available for online gifts only, the first $500 per donor, per organization, will be matched until the $100,000 match has been met, CFT said. (For example, giving $500 to an organization turns into $1,000 for the organization while the match is available.)

CFT, sponsors, and donors are covering all transaction and tech fees, so 100% of each donation made will go directly to local nonprofits.

“During this special campaign, the NorthTexasGivingDay.org platform serves as a one-stop-shop to raise funds in support of animals during National Pet Month,” CFT President and CEO Wayne White said in a statement. “You can support any of over 300 participating animal-focused nonprofits, and we’ve added helpful search filters to make it easy for you to support your passions and discover new organizations.”

Donations can be made at this website, where donors can browse five categories of verified animal-focused nonprofits including Animal Shelters & Adoption; Pet Wellness & Veterinary Care; Wildlife & Animal Protection; Cats; Dogs; and Other Domestic Animals.

“I hope our fundraising campaign will inspire generosity and encourage our community to support the nonprofits dedicated to caring for animals,” said Gartner, who’s helping make the matching funds available to participating organizations. “As someone who has adopted pets from local shelters, this cause is especially meaningful to me, and I believe every pet deserves a happy, healthy life. With donations now being matched, we have a great chance to improve animal welfare significantly.”
